Canyoneering is an awesome and exciting way to explore the scenic and awe-striking views that the sand stone cliffs and canyons of Utah provide.

Canyoneering is the technical descent of slot canyons. Slot canyons in themselves are already beautiful, bringing in the technical aspects makes it a great sport. It requires hiking, scrambling, teamwork and critical thinking skills to bypass obstacles, knowledge of rope systems and knots to anchor rappels, and a generally positive attitude to have an amazing experience.

Our guides have a wealth of knowledge of the canyons in the greater Capitol Reef area to help find a canyon that is right for your ability and comfort level.

Trips begin with us picking you up at your local accommodation or meeting you at Capitol Reef Outfitters, 9 W. Main St. Torrey UT 84775, at 9am. We then have a short drive (no more than 15 minutes, depending on which canyon we will be descending) to our trailhead. Once at the trailhead we have a short safety briefing and gear everyone up with harness, helmet, and belay equipment. We then have a short hike to the top of the canyon where we take in big views of the Waterpocket Fold and Capitol Reef National Park. Once at the top we provide some instruction on proper rappel techniques before we climb, chimney, and rappel our way down through the canyon. Trips typically finish around 3pm.

We almost always hear from the customers that book trips with us that this was the highlight of their Utah Vacation.
